ON THE INDICES THAT GENERALIZE THE LAND EQUIVALENT RATIO ( LER) II-EXPERIMENTS WITH TWO INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS

§    ABSTRACT: In an intercropping experiment with two crops aiming to obtain the desirable proportion l for the mano crop, Riley (1984) proposed that an area proportion k should be cultivated with an intercropping patern and the remaining proportion 1 - k with other one. The author proposed a new indice, denominated COMBINED LER, that is a generalization of LER ( Land Equivalent Ratio), and measures the efficiency of intercropping system versus sole crop. This indice as LER and other ones proposed in the literature, deal with the ratio of random variables and theirs distribution that could invalid the analysis of variance. The precision of these analysis is studied in the present work, from simulated data obtained from the computer. It was observed that the precision obtained is satisfactory in some cases, depending not only on the value of the l , as also of the error variance of the experiment.
