DESIGNS AND ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE OPTIMUM LEVELS IN FERTILIZER TRIALS

§    ABSTRACT: Frequently, it occurs that a response surface has a saddle point instead of a maximum. so, the experimental point of maximum and the point of absolute maximum in the experimental region were studied as the alternative solutions for the optimum levels, i. e., the combination of dosis that gives the maximum yield or the maximum gain. a comparison was also made among ten treatment designs with three factors and 3, 5, 7 and 9 levels. The data were simulated according to a polynomial with squared root model, using three variables to represent three factors ( nutrients). the response was estimated as a polynomial quadratic model.
