CLUSTER ANALYSIS: GENERAL ASPECTS AND CAMPARISON OF METHODS USING COPHENETIC CORRELATIONS.

Rubens Alves da CUNHA[1]

§    ABSTRACT: Clustering process in general and SAHN methods in particular are discussed. In addition, an application of some clustering methods are reported using data set describing bumblebees ( Bombus atratus). For that, resemblance matrices are constructed showing similarities or dissimilarities between pairs of OTU's. The variables (characters) are used in their original scale or transformed by range or standardization. Then, some of the SAHN clustering methods are used and the corresponding values of the cophenetic correlation are used to estimate similarities among them and clustered by UPGMA. The best results showed that SINGL and WPGMS or COMPL, UPGMS and WPGMA are more similar under the proposed design.

§    KEYWORDS: Cophenetic correlation; clustering methods; phenetics.
