Seasonality in index of agricultural sectoral prices for the county of Lavras, MG

§    ABSTRACT: This article aims to study the seasonal behavior of the series of Index of Prices Received and Paid by rurais producers in Lavras county, MG, and its components, besides compare the quality between direct and indirect adjustment for both series of indices. The data were obtained from the Department of Management and Economics - DAE - the Federal University of Lavras - UFLA - including monthly observation from January 1996 to December 2005. The results showed that the two series of Index of Prices not have identifiable seasonality. But in the case of IPR, three of the four series of prices showed  seasonality identifiable. Moreover, when compared for the series of IPR which of the two procedures of seasonal adjustment is better, it was concluded that the adjustment Direct is softer than the indirect adjustment.
